We are all feeling it.
The end is approaching fast. Tomorrow is ELECTION DAY. Of course, voters have been going to the polls for a few weeks in some states, but after tomorrow, no more votes are cast, and the counting (and recounting?) begins. There have been ups & downs. There have been moments of elation & despair.
Let's recall for a moment (in a montage of course):
-- The early conventional wisdom that Bush was UNBEATABLE, and that the best the Dems could hope for was to win a state or two.
-- The Dean phenomenon - he never thought Shrubby was unbeatable - and he showed the democrats that talking about the issues and calling Bush on his misleadership could be done.
-- The endless series of Democratic debates - proof that over half a dozen politicians can disagree with each other and still say nothing of import.
-- Gephardt calling Bush a "miserable failure" in one of those debates and it was suddenly game on.
-- Al Sharpton - enough said.
-- Kerry behind in the polls in - gasp - Massachusetts. Then suddenly he pulls ahead in Iowa with less than a day to go and rolls up victory after victory.
-- All the endless "will Osama be captured before election day?" musings.
-- The VP choice sweepstakes. How long will it be before this becomes a reality show? 16 people locked in a contest on an island to determine who will be the next VP.
-- The conventions. Can we please get rid of the conventions?
-- The debates. Mmmmmmm the debates. Yummy debate goodness. Bush looked petulant. Kerry looked presidential. Bush has still not recovered in the polls to his pre-debate levels. Maybe he really should have worn an ear piece.
And now - here we are. What started out as the long prelude to the Iowa caucuses has now come down to two men who have different plans, different visions, and different futures. One will be our next president, and the other will either go back to the Senate, or go back to Crawford. Come to think of it, Shrubby will spend the better part of the next few years on his ranch whether or not he is re-elected. I just prefer that he not be there on vacation from the White House.
I am throwing down here. The wild optimist in me is predicting a big Kerry win - 315 electoral votes (WA, OR, CA, NM, HI, FL, MN, IA, WI, IL, MI, OH, PA, NY, VT, NH, ME, MA, RI, CT, NJ, DE, MD, DC, and 4 EVs from CO). Anyone want to make their own prediction? Leave your prediction on the post at my blog - The Core4. Closest guess wins a piece of cheap Core4 merchandise!
One more thing. Vote. Tomorrow is the day we start to take this country back.
